Our musician friends choose their albums of 2013 for GravelRoad76

¿CHOOSE YOUR FAVORITES THREE ALBUMS OF 2013?

Bill Corbin (American Aquarium): Jason Isbell “Southeastern” John Moreland “In the Throes” Haim “Days Go By”.

Kevin M McClain (American Aquarium): Jason isbell’s “Southeasterner”, John’s moreland’s “in the throes”, The Dawes “Stories Don’t End”

Ben Townsend (Hackensaw Boys): Kanye west “ Yeezus” , Loincloth “Iron balls of Steel” , John Gallagher “No corn on tygart”.

Brian Roberts (Ha Ha Tonka ): Lucius “Wildewoman” , Phoenix “Bankrupt” , Arcade Fire “Reflektor”.

LUCAS

Lucas Long (Ha Ha Tonka): Giddy Up Galys! “Happy Holidays to YA..”, Lucius “Wildewoman Phoenix- Bankrupt!” , The National “Trouble Will Find Me”

Lennon Bone (Ha Ha Tonka): Lucius “ Wildewoman”, Fly By Wire “Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin” , Haim “Days are Gone”

Oskar Fredén (Kendolls): Here is my top 3 for 2013:

“Daniel Norgren – Buck” Swedish blues/folk artist! This guy has a unique and original way of playing guitar, builds his own equipment and has voice that brings tears to your eyes and shivers across your spine. This guy is probably one of my favorite artists of all time. A perfect blend of good ol’ American blues and Nordic melancholy! Buy this beautiful gatefold vinyl!

“Queens of the stone age – Like clockwork” To me, Josh Homme is the definition of a true artist. There is simply no one like him! He colors and paints in bizarre ways like no one else. This record features a lot of beautiful slower songs with icons such as Elton John. I love when bands have the guts to do something different and doesn’t “play it safe” just to satisfy the underground music police.

“Kartellen – Ånger & Kamp Del 2” Kartellen is the only swedish hip hop act that has EVER interested me. Aggressive, honest and great lyrics. No one sings about social misery, class issues and real criminal life like these guys. Kartellen describes the shadow side of Swedish society that politicians and western media wants to deny. They have the whole establishment against them but they have the suburban youth with them. I love dark and brutal hip hop.

Alex Alexander (Willie Nile): Willie Nile “American Ride”, David Bowie “The Next Day Deluxe Edition” , Eljuri “ Fuerte”.

TOD

Tod Michael Bowers (Steepwater Band) : Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite “Get Up!”, The Strypes “Snapshot”, Paul McCartney “New”…. The Steepwater Band: Live & Humble

I didn’t buy much music in 2013. i love the new clutch, and mostly i listen to old vinyls and don’t pay much attention to new bands or their albums. I will listen, if someone tells me hey, listen to this, but i’ve heard so much bad music that i prefer to listen to music of the 70s and 80s. I heard the Hendrix re release, didn’t like it, and I heard hte new Black Sabbath, didn’t care for that either. i do like the new Hogjaw record..”If it ain’t broke”, but that wouldn’t be fair would it?

Simon MeliSimon Meli (The Widowbirds):
For 2013… I’ve been hearing more singles and individual tracks than entire albums. It’s a shame, but it is the way the world is working at the moment. I know that The Widowbirds are a band that appreciates albums for a full body of work…
That being said though, here a few records I’ve dug this year as well as some singles that really got it!
1. Rival Sons (US) Album titled ‘Head Down’ , Even though it was released in Nov / Dec 2012.
It carried on it’s exposure in 2013 with a full blown homage to Zep, 60’s Vibes with real grunt.
2. The Delta Riggs (AUS) Album titled ‘Hex.Lover.Killer’. Friends of mine again in the front line with us… creating a great debut album.
3. Fav song this year: Band of Skulls ‘Asleep At The Wheel’, Dynamite Sound Dynamite Riffs.
Michael KatonMichael Katon (Michael Katon):
To tell you the truth I don’t know many albums that came out in 2013!…I’ve been too busy working on my own music…But I like Valerie June – ‘Pushing Against A Stone’……Jimi Hendrix Live at The Miami Pop Festival 1968…Iggy and The Stooges -‘Ready To Die’

Marc Ford:

Dr. John “Locked Down”, Richard Thompson “Electric”, Phantom Limb “The Pines”

THANKS SO MUCH TO ALL OUR FRIENDS FOR ANSWER …. THANKS AND HAPPY 2014.
